The Fatal ‘Head’ache — VI

A Note For My Readers!

I may not have been around in the blogosphere for over a month (unconditional apologies for that), but your emails never stopped reaching me. And needless to say The Fatal ‘Head’ache series remains a cynosure of all gruelling passions. Recently, a friend asked me after reading my blog, “Why is your writing replete with sexual overtones?” For once my witty brains refused to come up with a witty answer. The question was way too deep for my wit or maybe it was just too simple.

Nothing in life is pure serendipity. Sex, I sometimes wonder why on earth we do it if that was meant only to produce children? So there should be some other reason for sex other than producing children. The answer is sex helps consolidate love, creates a sense of stability in relations, and amplifies the desire to live for that love. Love is not singular. It’s plural.

Passionate love is full of jealousy. There is hidden narrow attitude in it. We know that. Nothing is stable. Yet, we want stability in everything in which we are comfortable living with. Sex is a deceptive reason to make you feel that a relationship is going to be stable, though well deep in your heart you know it’s not true. One good thing about sex is that it is the only behaviour that brings out the real animal within us and we know what we really are. We cannot deceive ourself here.

Last but not the least, your feedback remains my inspiration, thus please continue send in your comments, questions and queries to: rajkmitra@gmail.com. You can now post your comments anonymously as well (no requirement of name/email id).

Here’s the sixth instalment. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

Cheers!

27 August 2008, 7:40PM, Office Basement Parking

I called up Priya (name changed) to check whether she would be availing the 7:30PM cab. Priya often came late after attending late-evening client calls. And we had got used to her schedule. But, we never objected to it, as we knew — if we got stuck in some project work some day, Priya won’t allow the cab to leave. Today, the wait seemed never ending, though we were well within the regular waiting time. I had seen Priya inside a meeting room with Nishigandha and Meghna (name changed). I was quite anxious to know what transpired between them.

Meghna was Nishigandha’s “eyes and ears”. And needless to say, she had benefitted quite a lot for being so. But, that’s a different story. I was more curious because Nishigandha was not quite fond of Priya. In fact, she always found Priya to be quite arrogant, though that wasn’t the case. Sometimes people with a narrow vision misinterpret self-confidence as arrogance. Priya was not distantly related to the editorial team, either. So, what was brewing between them inside?

“Dada, this is for you.” Priya said and handed over two packets to me after boarding the cab.

“What’s this?” I asked her on a note of suspicion.

“Birthday gift!” she replied.

“Are you kidding me! You guys gave me one, long time back. What’s this for?” I was even more curious.

“This isn’t from us. From someone else,” she replied with a grin on her face.

“Someone else? And why did that person give it to you?” I was even more curious now.

“How will I know? Just open it and see what’s inside,” Priya said.

I opened the packets hesitatingly, expecting it to be a prank on me. I didn’t want to make a fool of myself. A John Players full-sleeve shirt – vertical stripes of white and light purple – and a box full of sweets (either Haldiram or Bikanerwala, I can’t recall right now). I took one, and distributed the rest among my cabmates and the cab driver. “Oh wait, there’s a message attached to the gift box!”

Ek aur lamhan, ek aur shaam, ek aur din

Bas boond boond si rasti

Guzar jati hai zindagi…

Par inhi lamhon mein se kuch lamhein

Khas ban jantein hain

Dil ko kahin chhoo jatein hain

Tanhai mein humesha yaad aatein hain…

[P.S. I hope you understand the Hindi/Urdu. If not, you can ask for assistance. J]

“Now, can you please break the suspense? This is getting too much on me.” I told Priya.

“Well, this is a birthday gift from your boss,” she replied.

I proudly share my birthday with Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy and Pamela Anderson, who were born on the 1st of July. Two months had passed since. My teammates had gifted me a book and shirt on my birthday. But, this gift, arriving a little late for this year’s birthday and too early for the next, made little sense to me. Several questions shrouded my mind, though there was very little enthusiasm left in me to ponder on them after a tiring day at work.

Gifts usually make you happy, but this one left me embarrassed. The ‘suffocating’ episode, raksha bandhan and now this gift made me jitterier. What was the need for all this drama? She could have very well given this directly to me. Should I revolt? Or should I make it way of life?  But, for the time being, I switched off my cellphone. But, when you are away from home, you can hardly afford such a luxury. I switched it on at around 10:30 in the night.

    Hey,

Good one, really like the last one as well. I was a part of the team; while i cannot say i experienced exactly what you did (ahem…ahem), i know what you went through. However, i would excuse myself from explaining the mayhem there and leave it to you, as you are doing it quite brilliantly. I liked your style and how you are creating a story through incidents, which suggests of a conclusion, but doesn’t give it to you in writing.

As to whether this blog will become another saas-bahu saga, i beg to disagree. The longevity of any series depends how engaging you can keep the incidents and story (look at the various successful comic series or ‘Yes Minister’, etc.). So, all the best!
1 request: Can you share with us what are your thoughts on how people such as our Nishi here rise in ranks. if she is hated by so many, what still keeps her there? It might bring out the cleverly concealed “you scratch my back and i scratch yours” system in corporates; moreover, it might add to nishi’s character sketch.

    Keep up the good work.

Mr or Ms.’Whatever’…Most probably, you are Nishigandha herself. If not, you are probably someone close to her. If you do not like this blog or are probably bristling because this Nishigandha is really you, go look elsewhere; maybe you’d be better employed reading up some style guides and improving your lingusitic skills. I pity you Nishi (whether it is this Whatever or she’s out there reading this) , for you cannot use your malignant machinations out of the evil space you have created in office, else you would have killed Mr Editor by now.

Mr Editor, I have worked in this KPO for some time and even though I have not had the misfortune of working with this monstrosity, this corporate gargoyle, a relative of mine has suffered under her tyrannical managerial style. I am glad you have decided to relate your experiences through this blog and you can rest assured that I will be spreading word about your blog among all those who have worked with me in this KPO. For all I know, maybe everyone there has already read this!

Hey, truly inspiring comments. Well, this blog is not about suffering. It’s about fighting for your and people’s rights against evil forces, which will unfold gradually. The rebels within us must come to the fore. Keep sending in your comments/suggestions. And thanks for promoting my blog.

      Cheers!

“Pseudo intellectually attired people”…wow. Trying too hard to sound rather intellectual ourselves, aren’t we?

Whatever, crappy blog…shitty, perverted prelude…really shows people are quite vain when it come to “getting a life.”

I believe you didn’t understand the prelude.

I know few people personally including you, nishigandha and all the fake names

The way you are driving the story is pretty interesting. Power and passion are really difficult to handle if fueled. One selfish dark side of sentiments drag us to behave eccentrically. Being very possesive and dictating at the same time, Nishigandha seems to(or in reality) behaves in that way.Pseudo intellectually attired people have love, emotion, anger, ego all in their minds at the same time

      Nice observation.
